Plante herbacée, monoïque, à tiges glabres, ramifiées, cylindriques, de 0,6 à 1,5 mm de diamètre, rampantes à prostrées, vertes devenant rougeâtres, s’enracinant aux nœuds, libérant un suc laiteux quand on les coupe.

Feuilles opposées, simples, presque orbiculaires, légèrement cordiformes, gris vert mais souvent rougeâtres sur les bords, de 3 à 5 mm de long, de 2,5 à 4,5 mm de large, glabres, entières, à sommet échancré, à pétiole court, à 1 seule veine. 2 stipules blanches, membraneuses, triangulaires, légèrement dentées.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, verdâtres, blanches à rouges, de 1 mm de diamètre, solitaires à l’aisselle des feuilles. Cyathe composé d’une fleur femelle à ovaire pendant et de 5 à 7 fleurs mâles. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules vertes, trilobées, triangulaires à ovoïdes, glabres, de 1,5 à 1,7 mm de long, de 1,7 à 1,9 mm de large. Graines brunes, lisses ou à ondulations transversales peu profondes.

Plant herbaceous, monoecious. Stems glabrous, branched, cylindrical, from 0.6 to 1.5 mm in diameter, trailing to prostrate, green becoming reddish, rooting at nodes, releasing a milky sap when cut.

Leaves opposite, simple, almost orbicular, slightly heart-shaped, green grey but often reddish on the edges, from 3 to 5 mm long, from 2.5 to 4.5 mm across, glabrous, entire, with indented top, with short petiole, with only 1 vein. 2 stipules white, membranous, triangular, slightly toothed.

Flowers radially symmetrical, greenish, white to red, 1 mm in diameter, solitary at the axil of the leaves. Cyathium made up of a female flower with a hanging ovary and of 5 to 7 male flowers. Ovary superior.

Fruits, green capsules, three-lobed, triangular to ovoid, glabrous, from 1.5 to 1.7 mm long, from 1.7 to 1.9 mm across. Seeds brown, smooth or with shallow cross undulations.
