Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, robuste, érigée, à tiges quadrangulaires, non ramifiées, glabres, de 5 à 6 mm de diamètre. Espèce cultivée s’échappant souvent des cultures.

Feuilles alternes, composées paripennées, parfois imparipennées, pétiolées, à 2 à 6 folioles obovales de 45 à 60 mm de long, de 20 à 35 mm de large, terminées par une courte pointe, glabres, sans vrille. 2 stipules larges, embrassantes, entières ou dentées.

Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, blanches, veinées de brun sur l’étendard et avec une tache pourpre noir sur les ailes, de 25 à 30 mm de long, solitaires ou par 2 à l’aisselle des feuilles, portées par un pédoncule beaucoup plus court que la feuille sous-jacente. Corolle papilionacée. Calice blanc vert pâle, à 5 dents inégales plus courtes que le tube du calice ou l’égalant. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, gousses droites, allongées, dressées, vertes, ridées et noires à maturité, très grandes, de 50 à 200 mm de long, de 4 à 8 mm de large, glabres, lisses, à peine resserrées entre les graines.

Fruits, straight, lengthened, erect, green pods, wrinkled and black at maturity, very large, from 50 to 200 mm long, from 4 to 8 mm across, glabrous, scarcely tightened between seeds.
