Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tige érigée, glabre, simple, cylindrique, de 4 à 5 mm de diamètre.

Feuilles à la base et alternes, simples, lancéolées à elliptiques, glabres, de 4 à 9 cm de long, de 2,5 à 3 cm de large, entières, embrassantes. Bractées florales plus longues que l’ovaire.

Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, longues d’environ 15 mm, réunies par 3 à 7 en épi de 3 à 9 cm de long. Sépales lancéolés à étroitement ovales, étalés, de 10 à 15 mm de long et de 6 à 8 mm de large, rose pâle, unis, avec une ligne verte au dos. Pétales rose foncé, unis, velus, étroitement ovales, de 6 à 10 mm de long, de 2,5 à 4 mm de large, 2 fois plus courts que les sépales. Labelle trilobé, convexe, presque orbiculaire, horizontal à pendant, poilu, brun verdâtre à olivâtre, de 11 à 13 mm de long et de 14 à 19 mm de large, à lobes latéraux convexes, arrondis, à marge glabre et à centre à poils blancs plus longs que ceux du labelle. Macule petite, centrale, gris bleu luisant, formée de 2 gouttes isolées ou contiguës. Appendice petit, verdâtre, triangulaire, pendant à presque horizontal. 2 pseudo-yeux verts à brun noirâtre brillant. Ovaire infère.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite. Stems erect, glabrous, unbranched, cylindrical, from 4 to 5 mm in diameter.

Leaves at the base and alternate, simple, lanceolate to elliptic, glabrous, from 4 to 9 cm long, from 2.5 to 3 cm across, entire, clasping. Floral bracts longer than the ovary.

Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, approximately 15 mm long, joined together by 3 to 7 in spike from 3 to 9 cm long. Sepals lanceolate to narrowly oval, from 10 to 15 mm long and from 6 to 8 mm across, pale-pink, self-coloured, with a green line at the back. Petals deep-pink, self-coloured, very hairy, narrowly oval, from 6 to 10 mm long and from 2.5 to 4 mm across, twice shorter than the sepals. Labellum three-lobed, convex, suborbicular, horizontal to hanging, hairy, greenish-brown to olive-greenish, from 11 to 13 mm long and from 14 to 19 mm across, with lateral lobes convex, rounded, with glabrous edge and with the centre covered in white hairs longer than those of the labellum. Macula small, central, shiny blue-grey, formed by 2 isolated or contiguous drops. Appendix small, greenish, triangular, hanging to subhorizontal. Pseudo-eyes green to shiny blackish-brown. Ovary inferior.

    Ophrys : emprunt du latin ophrys, -yos  (nom) = ophrys, nom donné à

        plusieurs plantes par Pline, naturaliste latin mort en 79 apr. J.-C.,

        forme latinisée du grec ancien ὀφρύς, -ύος  (nom) = le sourcil,

        en référence à la pilosité du labelle, en particulier autour des bords.

    Argolica : emprunt du latin Argolicus, -a, -um  (adj.) = d’Argolide,

        région du Péloponnèse.

    Lucis : emprunt du latin lux, lucis  (nom) = la lumière, en référence aux

        endroits ensoleillés où la plante pousse le plus souvent.


    Ophrys : borrowed from Latin ophrys, -yos  (noun) = bee orchid, name

        given to several plants by Plinius, Latin naturalist died in 79 AD,

        Latinized form of the Classical Greek ὀφρύς, -ύος  (noun) = eyebrow,

        referring to the hairiness of the labellum, particularly around margins.

    Argolica : borrowed from Latin Argolicus, -a, -um  (adj) = from Argolis,

        a region of Peloponnese.

    Lucis : borrowed from Latin lux, lucis  (noun) = light, referring to the

        sunny places where the plant grows most often.
