Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges peu poilues, ramifiées, étalées à ascendantes.

Feuilles en rosette et alternes, simples, elliptiques, souvent plus larges au-dessus du milieu, ou divisées pennatipartites, entières à dentées ou lobées, poilues, les inférieures à pétiole souvent ailé, les supérieures sessiles.

Fleurs jaune terne, toutes ligulées, réunies en capitules solitaires à nombreux, de 10 à 15 mm de diamètre, portés par un pédoncule épais, surtout juste sous les capitules. Bractées de l’involucre linéaires à lancéolées, très incurvées et se joignant presque par le sommet à la fructification, disposées presque sur un seul rang. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, akènes cylindriques, parfois arqués, de 5 à 7 mm de long, munis de côtes longitudinales, un peu rugueux, à pappus réduit à des écailles étroites.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite. Stems little hairy, branched, spread out to ascending.

Leaves in a rosette and alternate, simple, elliptic, often wider above the centre, or dissected pinnatipartite, entire to toothed or lobed, hairy, the lower ones with often winged petiole, the higher ones sessile.

Flowers dull yellow, with only ray-florets, joined together in solitary to numerous capitula, from 10 to 15 mm in diameter, carried by a peduncle thick, mainly just under the capitula. Bracts of the involucre linear to lanceolate, very curved and almost joined together by the top at fructification, laid out almost on only one row. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, cylindrical, sometimes arched achenes, from 5 to 7 mm long, provided with longitudinal ribs, a little rough, with a pappus reduced to narrow scales.

Hedypnois : emprunt du latin hedypnois, -idis (nom), nom donné à la

plante par Pline, naturaliste latin mort en 79 apr. J.-C., forme latinisée

du grec ancien ἡδύπνοος, -ος, -ον (adj.) [ < ἡδύς, -εῖα, -ύ (adj.)

= agréable + πνέω (verbe) = souffler, respirer ] = au souffle agréable,

parfumé.

Rhagadioloides : emprunt du latin rhagadiolus, -i (nom) = nom d’une

plante de la famille des Asteraceae + εἶδος, -ους (nom)

= l’apparence, l’aspect. L’adjectif rhagadioloides signifie :

qui a l’apparence d’un rhagadiolus.

Hedypnois : borrowed from Latin hedypnois, -idis (noun), name given to

the plant by Plinius, Latin naturalist died in 79 AD, Latinized form of the

Classical Greek ἡδύπνοος, -ος, -ον (adj) [ < ἡδύς, -εῖα, -ύ (adj)

= pleasant, nice + πνέω (verb) = to blow, to breathe] = with pleasant

breathing, scented.

Rhagadioloides : borrowed from Latin rhagadiolus, -i (noun) = name of

a plant of the Asteraceae family + εἶδος, -ους (noun) = appearance,

aspect. The adjectiv rhagadioloides means : which has the

appearance of a rhagadiolus.
