Arbre hermaphrodite, à feuillage caduc, à branches ascendantes, glabres.
Feuilles alternes, simples, réniformes à cordiformes, entières, arrondies, à sommet arrondi ou échancré, lisses, pétiolées, glabres, brillantes à l’état juvénile, mates à maturité, de 7 à 12 cm de long au plus. Stipules petites tombant très tôt.
Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, pourpres à roses, rarement blanches, de 15 à 20 mm de long, réunies en bouquets directement insérés sur les branches et sur le tronc, souvent avant la feuillaison. Corolle papilionacée. Calice à 5 sépales soudés en tube campanulé. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, gousses linéaires à oblongues, aplaties, pointues, pendantes, lisses, brunes, de 6 à 10 cm de long, bordées d’une longue aile étroite.

Tree hermaphrodite, with a deciduous foliage. Branches ascending, glabrous.
Leaves alternate, simple, kidney-shaped to heart-shaped, entire, rounded, with rounded or indented top, smooth, petiolate, glabrous, bright at the youthful state, matt at maturity, from 7 to 12 cm long at most. Small stipules falling very early.
Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, purple to pink, seldom white, from 15 to 20 mm long, joined together in clusters directly inserted on the branches and the trunk, often before foliation. Corolla papilionaceous. Calyx with 5 sepals fused in bell-shaped tubes. Ovary superior.
Fruits, linear to oblong pods, flattened, pointed, hanging, smooth, brown, from 6 to 10 cm long, bordered by a long narrow wing.
