Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, presque glabre, à tiges simples ou peu ramifiées, à racines peu profondes.

Feuilles alternes, composées bipennées, divisées en segments minuscules, ovales ou triangulaires et terminés par une petite pointe.

Fleurs blanches, réunies en capitules terminaux, solitaires, de 20 à 45 mm de diamètre, portés par de longs pédoncules non renflés sous le capitule. Fleurs ligulées terminées par 3 dents.

Bractées de l’involucre lancéolées, pointues, à bords membraneux de couleur brun noirâtre. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, akènes presque cylindriques à 7 à 10 côtes.

Leaves alternate, compound bipinnately, divided into tiny, ovate or triangular segments and finished by a small point.

Flowers white, in terminal solitary capitula, from 20 to 45 mm in diameter, carried by long stalks not swollen under the capitulum. Ray-florets finished by 3 teeth.

Bracts of the involucre lanceolate, pointed, with membranous, blackish brown edges. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, almost cylindrical achenes with 7 to 10 ribs.

Anthemis : emprunt du latin anthemis, -idis (nom), nom donné à la

camomille par Pline, naturaliste latin mort en 79 apr. J.-C., forme

latinisée du grec ancien ἀνθεμίς, -ίδος (nom) = la fleur,

particulièrement la camomille [ < ἄνθεμον, -ου (nom) = la fleur ], nom

donné à la plante par Dioscoride, médecin et botaniste grec mort

en 90 apr. J.-C., en référence à sa floraison abondante.

Chia : emprunt du latin chius, -a, -um (adj.)

[ < Chios, -i, (nom propre) = Chios, île de la mer Égée ] = de Chios,

qui vient de Chios.

Anthemis : borrowed from Latin anthemis, -idis (noun), name given to

the camomile by Plinius, Latin naturalist died in 79 AD, Latinized form

of the Classical Greek ἀνθεμίς, -ίδος (noun) = flower,

particularly the camomile [ < ἄνθεμον, -ου (noun) = flower ] name

given to the plant by Dioscorides, Greek doctor and botanist died

in 90 AD, referring to its profuse blooming.
