Arbuste ou arbre dioïque, à branches brun rougeâtre, à écorce d’abord lisse, puis écailleuse.

Feuilles alternes, composées imparipennées, à folioles entières, coriaces, à forte odeur de résine, avec une foliole terminale et à rachis non ailé.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, rouge brunâtre, réunies en longues panicules. Périanthe à 5 tépales libres dans les fleurs mâles et à 3 ou 4 tépales libres dans les fleurs femelles. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, drupes ovoïdes, de 5 à 10 mm de long, d’abord rougeâtres puis brunes, à un seul noyau contenant une seule graine.

Treelet or tree, dioecious, with reddish brown branches. Bark initially smooth, then scaly.

Leaves alternate, compound imparipinnate, with entire, tough leaflets, with a strong resin smell, with a terminal leaflet and with a nonwinged midrib.

Flowers radially symmetrical, brownish red, joined together in long panicles. Perianth with 5 free tepals in the male flowers and with 3 or 4 free tepals in the female flowers. Ovary superior.

Fruits, ovoid drupes, from 5 to 10 mm long, initially reddish then brown, with only one stone containing only one seed.
