Arbrisseau hermaphrodite, à tiges très ramifiées, à jeunes pousses dressées, couvertes d’un épais feutrage blanc gris.

Feuilles opposées décussées, simples, elliptiques à lancéolées ou ovales, dentées, de 10 cm de long au plus, persistantes, ± cordées à la base, couvertes de poils jaunâtres, à revers portant des nervures saillantes, les inférieures pétiolées, les supérieures sessiles.

Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, jaune vif, de 25 à 35 mm de long, arquées, réunies par 6 à 12 en 1 ou 2 verticilles étagés et très espacés, avec des bractées pointues, velues, linéaires à lancéolées et appliquées contre le calice. Les inflorescences fanées ressemblent à des nids d’abeilles et persistent jusqu’à l’année suivante. Corolle à 2 lèvres, la supérieure en casque, échancrée au sommet et poilue, l’inférieure étalée et trilobée (lobe médian notablement plus grand que les 2 autres). Calice à 5 sépales subégaux, à dents triangulaires pointues, de 1 mm de long. 4 étamines saillantes. Ovaire supère.

Shrub hermaphrodite, with very branched stems. Youthful shoots erect, covered in thick grey white felt-like hairs.

Leaves opposite decussate, simple, elliptic to lanceolate or ovate, toothed, 10 cm long at most, persistent, ± heart-shaped at the base, covered in yellowish hairs, with reverse carrying protruding veins, the lower ones petiolate, the higher ones sessile.

Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, bright yellow, from 25 to 35 mm long, curved, joined together by 6 to 12 in 1 or 2 tiered and very spaced whorls, with pointed, very hairy bracts, linear to lanceolate and appressed against the calyx. The faded inflorescences resemble honeycombs and persist until the following year. Corolla with 2 lips, the higher one helmet-shaped, indented at the top and hairy, the lower one spread out and three-lobed (median lobe conspicuously larger than the 2 others). Calyx with 5 subequal sepals, with pointed-triangular teeth, 1 mm long. 4 protruding stamens. Ovary superior.

Fruits, 4 trigonous achenes.
