Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, basse à étalée, charnue, couverte de papilles cristallines évoquant la rosée, à tiges glabres.

Feuilles alternes, presque opposées, simples, linéaires, charnues, entières, très souvent cylindriques, les plus grandes de plus de 2 cm de long, sans stipules.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, de 10 à 15 mm de diamètre, à étamines en nombre variable, accompagnées d’étamines stériles pétaloïdes, très étroites, blanches à base souvent jaunâtre, plus courtes que les tépales. Enveloppe florale à tépales cylindriques assez semblables aux feuilles. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, follicules à 5 angles, d’abord charnus puis presque ligneux lorsqu’ils sont mûrs, s’ouvrant au sommet en étoile.

Leaves alternate, almost opposite, simple, linear, fleshy, entire, very often cylindrical, the largest ones more than 2 cm long, without stipules.

Flowers radially symmetrical, from 10 to 15 mm in diameter, with stamens of variable number, with petaloid, very narrow sterile stamens, white with an often yellowish base, shorter than the tepals. Perianth with cylindrical tepals, rather similar to the leaves. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, follicles with 5 angles, initially fleshy then almost woody when they are ripe, opening at the top in the shape of a star.
