Fougère robuste, en touffe.

Feuilles persistantes, étroites, à contour général oblong et atténué au sommet, 2 à 4 fois complètement divisées, vert vif, avec de petites divisions oblongues à arrondies, à dents émoussées.

Pétiole plus long que le limbe, brun rougeâtre, luisant, parsemé d’écailles. Frondes fertiles glabres.

Sporanges apparaissant d’avril à juin, d’abord séparés, puis fusionnés en une ligne interrompue, à moitié enfoncés sous le bord membraneux et replié des folioles.

Fern robust, tufted.

Leaves persistent, narrow, with an oblong general contour attenuated at the top, 2 to 4 times completely divided, bright green, with small, oblong to rounded divisions, with blunted teeth.

Petiole longer than the blade, brown reddish, shining, sprinkled with scales. Fertile fronds glabrous.

Sporangia appearing from April to June, initially separated, then merged into a stopped line, half inserted under membranous and folded up edge of the leaflets.

le bord + ἄνθος, -ους (nom) = la fleur, en référence aux sores

(fructification des fougères) situés sur le bord de la fronde.

Maderensis : emprunt du latin maderensis, -is, -e (adj.) = de Madère,

originaire de Madère (île portugaise située dans l’océan Atlantique).

Cheilanthes : borrowed from Classical Greek χεῖλος, -ους (noun)

= lip, edge, margin + ἄνθος, -ους (noun) = flower, referring to the sori

(fructification of ferns) located on the edge of the frond.

Maderensis : borrowed from Latin maderensis, -is, -e (adj)

= of or from Madeira (Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean).
