Plante herbacée, monoïque, vivace, à racine tubéreuse, poussant généralement en colonie.

Feuilles à la base, simples, ovales à cordiformes, entières, de 6 à 12 cm de long, glabres, à dessus uniformément vert brillant (parfois taché), portées par un long pétiole grêle et taché.

Fleurs sans périanthe, mâles et femelles contiguës, groupées en épi autour d’un spadice libre, grêle, à massue terminale nue, verdâtre, recourbée en avant et saillante au-dessus du tube. Spathe d’environ 1 cm de diamètre, de 4 à 5 cm de long, brune ou jaune verdâtre, rayée de pourpre, en tube jusqu'au milieu, courbée en capuchon et acuminée au sommet. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, baies vertes, capsulaires, en forme de tête hémisphérique tronquée au sommet, à 2 à 8 graines.

Plant herbaceous, monoecious, perennial, with a tuberose root, generally growing in colonies.

Leaves at the base, simple, ovate to cordate, entire, from 6 to 12 cm long, glabrous, with top uniformly shiny green (sometimes speckled), carried by a long thin and speckled petiole.

Flowers without a perianth, males and females contiguous, grouped in a spike around a free slender spadix, with a naked greenish final bludgeon, bent ahead and projecting above the tube. Spathe approximately 1 cm in diameter, from 4 to 5 cm long, brown or yellow greenish, striped of purple, in tube up to the middle, curved like a hood and acuminate at the top. Ovary superior.

Fruits, green berries capsulate, in the shape of a hemispherical head truncated at the top, with 2 to 8 seeds.
