Plante herbacée, monoïque, urticante, à tiges quadrangulaires-arrondies, dressées, ramifiées dès la base.
Feuilles opposées, simples, vert clair, ovales, dentées, à dents 2 fois plus longues que larges, poilues, à pétiole plus court ou presque aussi long que le limbe, à 4 stipules par nœud, lancéolées, libres.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, verdâtres, mâles et femelles réunies sur les mêmes grappes spiciformes, dressées à plus ou moins étalées. Inflorescences d’environ 2 cm de long, plus courtes que le pétiole de la feuille sous-jacente, disposées par 2 à l’aisselle des feuilles. Fleurs femelles beaucoup plus nombreuses que les fleurs mâles. Périanthe à 4 tépales. Périanthe des fleurs femelles à tépales très inégaux, les externes de moins de 0,7 mm de long, les internes beaucoup plus grands, à marge poilue et à grand poil urticant central. 4 étamines. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, akènes en grappes spiciformes, allongées, de moins de 2 cm de long, à graines de 1,5 à 2 mm.

Plant herbaceous, monoecious, urticating. Stems quadrangular-rounded, erect, branched from the base.
Leaves opposite, simple, pale green, ovate, toothed, with teeth twice longer than wide, hairy, with a petiole shorter than or almost as long as the blade, with 4 lanceolate, free stipules per node.
Flowers radially symmetrical, greenish, the male and female ones joined together on the same spiciform racemes, erect to more or less spread out. Inflorescences approximately 2 cm long, shorter than the petiole of the underlying leaf, laid out by 2 at the axil of the leaves. Female flowers much more numerous than male flowers. Perianth with 4 tepals. Perianth of the female flowers with very unequal tepals, the external ones less than 0.7 mm long, the internal ones much larger, with hairy edges and with a large urticating central hair. 4 stamens. Ovary superior.
Fruits, achenes in spiciform, lengthened racemes, less than 2 cm long, with seeds from 1.5 to 2 mm.
