Arbre hermaphrodite, plumeux, presque glabre, à écorce noire ou pourpre foncé, se couvrant de gerçures en longueur.

Feuilles alternes, simples, linéaires, de 2 à 4 mm de long, pointues, appliquées contre la tige, blanches-membraneuses et translucides sur les bords.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, blanches ou rose pâle, réunies en grappes cylindriques de 3 à 6 cm de long et 4 à 6 mm de large sur le bois de l’année précédente. Corolle à 5 pétales libres, de 2 à 3 mm de long. Étamines ne dépassant pas sensiblement la corolle. 3 styles terminés chacun par 1 stigmate. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules à nombreuses graines pourvues d’une aigrette de longs poils soyeux.

Tree hermaphrodite, feathery, almost glabrous. Bark black or dark purple, covering with longitudinal shakes.

Leaves alternate, simple, linear, from 2 to 4 mm long, pointed, appressed against the stem, membranous-white and translucent on the edges.

Flowers radially symmetrical, white or pale pink, joined together in cylindrical racemes from 3 to 6 cm long and from 4 to 6 mm across on the wood of the previous year. Corolla with 5 free petals from 2 to 3 mm long. Stamens not exceeding the corolla. 3 styles finished each one by 1 stigma. Ovary superior.

Fruits, capsules with numerous seeds provided with a pappus of long, silky hairs.
