Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges érigées, glabres ou à poils blancs, ramifiées dès la base.
Feuilles alternes, divisées pennatifides à pennatiséquées, à segments entiers ou lobés, charnues, peu poilues, embrassant la tige par leur base, les inférieures pétiolées, les supérieures sessiles.
Fleurs réunies en capitules de 10 à 22 mm de diamètre. Fleurons ligulés jaunes, de 5 à 8 mm de long, étalés, fleurons tubulés jaunes. Involucre composé d’une rangée de grandes bractées souvent terminées par une pointe noire et qui sont 7 à 10 fois plus longues que les petites bractées situées à leur base. Ovaire infère.
Fruits, akènes à aigrette blanche.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite. Stems erect, glabrous or with white hairs, branched from the base.
Leaves alternate, dissected pinnatifid to pennatisect, with entire or lobbed segments, fleshy, not very hairy, clasping the stem by their base, the lower ones petiolate, the higher ones sessile.
Flowers joined together in capitula from 10 to 22 mm in diameter. Ray-florets yellow, from 5 to 8 mm long, spread out, disk-florets yellow. Involucre made up of a row of large bracts often finished by a black point and which are 7 to 10 times longer than the small bracts located at their base. Ovary inferior.
Fruits, achenes with a white pappus.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Senecio : emprunt du latin senecio, -onis (nom) [ < senex, -is (nom)
= le vieillard ] = le séneçon, nom donné à la plante par Pline,
naturaliste latin mort en 79 apr. J.-C., en référence aux pappus blancs
des akènes qui ressemblent à des cheveux de vieillards.
Leucanthemifolius : adjectif créé par les botanistes
[ < leucanthemum, -i (nom) = la camomille + folium, -i (nom)
= la feuille ] = qui a des feuilles semblables à celles de la camomille.
Senecio : borrowed from Latin senecio, -onis (noun) [ < senex, -is (noun)
= old man ] = groundsel, name given to the plant by Plinius, Latin
naturalist died in 79 AD, referring to the white pappus of the achenes
resembling the hair of old men.
