Arbrisseau dioïque, épineux, très ramifié, à jeunes pousses à poils très courts.

Feuilles alternes ou groupées, simples, lancéolées à obovales, entières, glabres, coriaces, persistantes, pétiolées, de 7 à 20 mm de long et de 3 à 9 mm de large, à nervures latérales distinctes.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, vert jaunâtre, de 3 mm de diamètre, portées par un long pédoncule, réunies en bouquets à l’aisselle des feuilles. Périanthe à 4 tépales soudés à la base. 4 étamines. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, baies charnues, globuleuses, de 4 à 6 mm de diamètre, jaunâtres ou noires à maturité.

Shrub dioecious, spiny, very branched. Youthful shoots with very short hairs.

Leaves alternate or grouped, simple, lanceolate to obovate, entire, glabrous, tough, persistent, petiolate, from 7 to 20 mm long and from 3 to 9 mm across, with conspicuous lateral veins.

Flowers radially symmetrical, yellowish green, 3 mm in diameter, carried by a long peduncle, joined together in clusters at the axil of the leaves. Perianth with 4 partly fused tepals. 4 stamens. Ovary superior.

Fruits, fleshy, globose berries, from 4 to 6 mm in diameter, yellowish or black at maturity.
