Plante herbacée, à souche ligneuse, hermaphrodite, prostrée, rampante, toute recouverte d’un feutrage dense de poils laineux.
Feuilles alternes, composées trifoliées, pétiolées, à folioles obovales, dentées au sommet. Stipules ovales, dentées ou non.
Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, jaune vif, de 6 à 10 mm de long, réunies par 5 à 12 en bouquets à pédoncule court égalant à peu près la feuille sous-jacente. Corolle papilionacée. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, gousses aplaties de 5 à 7 mm de diamètre, enroulées sur 2 ou 3 spires dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre, avec un petit trou central, garnies d’un duvet blanc, avec de courtes épines sur 2 rangs.

Plant herbaceous, with a woody stock, hermaphrodite, prostrate, trailing, entirely covered in dense felt-like woolly hairs.
Leaves alternate, compound trifoliate, petiolate, with obovate leaflets, toothed at the top. Stipules ovate, toothed or not.
Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, bright yellow, from 6 to 10 mm long, joined together by 5 to 12 in clusters with a short peduncle almost equalling the underlying leaf. Corolla papilionaceous. Ovary superior.
Fruits, flattened pods from 5 to 7 mm in diameter, coiled clockwise on 2 or 3 whorls, with a small central hole, provided with a white hoary pubescence, with short thorns on 2 rows.

Medicago : emprunt du grec ancien μηδικός, -ή, -όν (adj.) = de Médie
(région de Perse), en référence au texte de Théophraste,
philosophe péripatéticien, disciple d’Aristote, botaniste et naturaliste,
mort vers 288 av. J.-C., qui croyait que la plante était originaire
de Perse.
Marina : emprunt du latin marinus, -a, -um (adj.) [ < mare, -is (nom)
= la mer ] = marin, de mer.
Medicago : borrowed from Classical Greek μηδικός, -ή, -όν (adj)
= from Media (region of Persia), referring to the text of Theophrastus,
peripatetic philosopher, disciple of Aristotle, botanist and naturalist,
died towards 288 BC, who believed that the plant was native to Persia.
Marina : borrowed from Latin marinus, -a, -um (adj) [ < mare, -is (noun)
= sea ] = marine, of or from the sea.
