Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, sans tige, glabre ou peu poilue, à racine pivotante et profonde.
Feuilles en rosette plate, simples, ovales à oblongues, de 10 à 25 cm de long, pétiolées, assez brillantes, coriaces, à bords ondulés, à nervure médiane épaisse.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, violettes ou pourpres, de 30 à 40 mm de diamètre, pédonculées, groupées en bouquet au centre de la rosette. Corolle à 5 pétales soudés à la base en tube court. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, baies jaunes ou orange, ovoïdes, de 25 à 30 mm de diamètre.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite, stemless, glabrous or not very hairy, with a deep taproot.
Leaves in a flat rosette, simple, ovate to oblong, from 10 to 25 cm long, petiolate, rather bright, tough, with undulated edges, with a thick median vein.
Flowers radially symmetrical, violet or purple, from 30 to 40 mm in diameter, stalked, joined together in cluster in the centre of the rosette. Corolla with 5 petals partly fused in a short tube. Ovary superior.
Fruits, yellow or orange, ovoid berries, from 25 to 30 mm in diameter.
