Sous-arbrisseau hermaphrodite, très ramifié, à tiges cylindriques, étalées à érigées, de ± 5 mm de diamètre à la base, à poils courts.

Feuilles opposées, au moins à la base, simples, linéaires, entières, de 8 à 11 mm de long, de 1 mm de large, arrondies au sommet, vertes, glabres ou à poils glanduleux, à bords nettement révolutés, avec des stipules et 1 groupe de petites feuilles à leur base.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaune vif, de 10 à 12 mm de diamètre, réunies par 3 à 8 en cymes lâches. Pédicelles pubescents, dressés ou étalés. Corolle à 5 pétales libres, unis, obovales, plus longs que le calice. Calice à 5 sépales membraneux, verts, veinés de pourpre, poilus, inégaux, les 3 externes beaucoup plus grands que les 2 internes. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules à 4 à 6 graines réticulées et à 3 angles.

Shrublet hermaphrodite, very branched. Stems cylindrical, spread out to erect, ± 5 mm in diameter at the base, with short hairs.

Leaves opposite, at least at the base, simple, linear, entire, from 8 to 11 mm long, 1 mm across, rounded at the top, green, glabrous or glandular-hairy, with conspicuously revolute margins, with stipules and with fascicles of small leaves in their axils.

Flowers radially symmetrical, bright-yellow, from 10 to 12 mm in diameter, joined together by 3 to 8 in loose cymes. Pedicels pubescent, erect or spread out. Corolla with 5 free petals, self-coloured, obovate, longer than the calyx. Calyx with 5 membranous sepals, green, with purple veins, hairy, unequal, the 3 external ones much longer than the internal ones. Ovary superior.

Fruits, capsules with 4 to 6 reticulate, triquetrous seeds.

à la couleur parfois grisâtre des plantes appartenant à ce genre.

Thymifolia : adjectif créé par les botanistes [ < thymus, -i (nom)

= le thym + folium, -i (nom) = la feuille ] = qui a des feuilles

semblables à celles du thym.

Fumana : borrowed from Latin fumus, -i (noun) = smoke, referring to

the sometimes grayish color of the plants of this genus.

Thymifolia : adjective created by botanists [ < thymus, -i (noun)

= thyme + folium, -i (noun) = leaf ] = which has leaves similar to

those of thyme.
