Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, glauque, cireuse, à tiges dressées, raides, glabres, gris bleuté ou gris vert.

Feuilles à la base et opposées, les radicales de 30 mm de long au plus, ovales, rétrécies à la base, en rosette, parfois flétries avant la fin de la floraison; les supérieures opposées connées, à base large et soudée l’une à l’autre. Pas de stipules.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaunes, de 8 à 15 mm de diamètre. Corolle à 6 à 8 (- 12) pétales soudés à la base en un tube court. Calice à 6 à 8 sépales étroits, très aigus au sommet, à peine soudés à leur base. 1 style court terminé par 1 stigmate divisé en 2. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules à 2 valves.

et botaniste anglais du 18ème siècle.

Perfoliata : adjectif créé par les botanistes [ < per (prép.) = à travers

+ foliatus, -a, -um (adj.) = garni de feuilles ] = perfolié

(feuille sessile dont le limbe embrasse la tige de telle façon que

la tige donne l’impression de traverser la feuille).

Blackstonia : name given in honour of John Blackstone, English

apothecary and botanist of the 18th century.

Perfoliata : adjective created by botanists [ < per (prep) = through

+ foliatus, -a, -um (adj) = provided with leaves ] = perfoliate

(stalkless leaf with base wrapped around the stem so that the stem

appears to pass through it).
