Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges florales dressées, grêles, glabres, cylindriques, un peu creuses, feuillées jusqu’au milieu.
Feuilles alternes, embrassantes, simples, linéaires, entières, glabres, non ciliées, de 1 à 3 mm de large, de 15 à 25 cm de long, aiguës, creuses, semi-cylindriques, arrondies dessous, canaliculées, vertes, en général au nombre de 3 à 5, engainant au moins la moitié inférieure de la tige.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaune brunâtre veinées de brun, parfois rosâtres, de 5 à 7 mm de diamètre, en cloche, réunies en ombelles lâches de 4 à 7 cm de diamètre. Pédicelles très inégaux, les plus longs atteignant 5 cm. Fleurs externes pendantes. Étamines non saillantes, de même longueur que les tépales, à filet entier, blanc, à anthère jaune pâle. Style légèrement saillant. Spathe à 2 valves inégales terminées en pointe linéaire très longue (11 cm de long au plus), persistantes, beaucoup plus longues que les pédicelles floraux. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, capsules en forme d’ellipse, de 3 à 4 mm de diamètre, rétrécies aux deux extrémités.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite. Floral stems erect, slender, glabrous, cylindrical, a little hollow, leafy up to the middle.
Leaves alternate, clasping, simple, linear, entire, glabrous, nonciliate, from 1 to 3 mm across, from 15 to 25 cm long, acute, hollow, half cylindrical, canaliculate, green, rounded below, generally amounting to 3 to 5, sheathing at least the lower half of the stem.
Flowers radially symmetrical, brownish yellow with brown veins, sometimes pinkish, from 5 to 7 mm in diameter, bell-shaped, joined together in loose umbels from 4 to 7 cm in diameter. Pedicels very unequal, the longest ones reaching 5 cm. External flowers hanging. Stamens nonprotruding, as long as the tepals, with an entire, white filament, with a pale yellow anther. Style slightly protruding. Spathe with 2 unequal valves finished by a linear, very long point (11 cm long at most), persistent, much longer than the floral pedicels. Ovary superior.
Fruits, elliptical capsules, from 3 to 4 mm in diameter, narrowed at the two tips.
