Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges érigées, un peu ramifiées, à poils blancs dirigés vers le bas.
Feuilles alternes, parfois opposées, simples, oblongues, ou divisées pennatipartites à pennatiséquées à 3 segments lobés, dentées, poilues.
Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, bleu mauve, de 30 à 35 mm de diamètre, réunies par 2 à 6 en ombelles de 8 à 10 cm de diamètre. Corolle à 5 pétales libres, de 15 à 25 mm de long, tombant rapidement. Calice à 5 sépales libres, de 10 à 14 mm de long à la floraison. Bractées blanchâtres. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, capsules poilues, rugueuses. Sommet des méricarpes à 1 alvéole profonde et à 1 large sillon transversal. Bec étroit, très long, de 60 à 110 mm.

Leaves alternate, sometimes opposite, simple, oblong, or dissected pinnatipartite to pennatisect with 3 lobed articles, toothed, hairy.
Flowers radially symmetrical, mauve blue, from 30 to 35 mm in diameter, joined together by 2 to 6 in umbels from 8 to 10 cm in diameter. Corolla with 5 free petals, from 15 to 25 mm long, falling quickly. Calyx with 5 free sepals, from 10 to 14 mm long at anthesis. Bracts whitish. Ovary superior.
Fruits, hairy, rough capsules. Top of the mericarps with 1 deep hollow, with a wide, transversal furrow. Beak narrow, very long, from 60 to 110 mm.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Erodium : emprunt du grec ancien ἐρῳδιός, -οῦ (nom) = le héron,
en référence au fruit surmonté d’un long bec.
Gruinum : emprunt du latin gruinus, -a, -um (adj.) [ < grus, gruis (nom)
= la grue ] = qui a l’apparence de la grue, en référence à la forme
des fruits qui rappellent le bec de la grue.
Erodium : borrowed from Classical Greek ἐρῳδιός, -οῦ (noun) = heron,
referring to the fruit surmounted by a long beak.
Gruinum : borrowed from Latin gruinus, -a, -um (adj)
[ < grus, gruis (noun) = crane ] = which has the appearance of a crane,
referring to the shape of the fruits resembling the beak of a crane.
