Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, dressée, ramifiée à la base, duveteuse à poils gris qui lui donnent un aspect brillant particulier.

Feuilles alternes, simples, linéaires, oblongues à elliptiques, entières.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, jaunes, minuscules, de 2 à 3 mm de diamètre, réunies en grappes de 5 à 10 mm de long, s’allongeant à la fructification. Corolle à 4 pétales libres tronqués ou légèrement échancrés. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, silicules arrondies à elliptiques, aplaties, ailées, généralement velues.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite, erect, branched at the base, hoary with grey hairs which give it a particular bright aspect.

Leaves alternate, simple, linear, oblong to elliptic, entire.

Flowers radially symmetrical, yellow, tiny, from 2 to 3 mm in diameter, joined together in racemes from 5 to 10 mm long, lengthening at fructification. Corolla with 4 truncate or slightly indented free petals. Ovary superior.

Fruits, rounded to elliptical siliculas, flattened, winged, generally hairy.

Étymologie / Etymology :

Clypeola : emprunt du latin clipeolum, -i (nom) [ < clipeus, -i (nom)

= le bouclier + -olus (suffixe) = petit, un peu ] = le petit bouclier,

en référence à la forme plate et arrondie de ses fruits.

Jonthlaspi : nom créé par Fabius Columna, botaniste italien (1567-1640)

[ < ἴον, -ου (nom) = la violette + θλάσπις, -εως (nom) = une sorte

de cresson ], sans référence aucune à la plante !

Clypeola : borrowed from Latin clipeolum, -i (noun) [ < clipeus, -i (noun)

= shield + -olus (suffix) = small, a little ] = small shield, referring to

the flat and rounded shape of its fruits.

Jonthlaspi : name created by Fabius Columna, Italian botanist

(1567-1640) [ < ἴον, -ου (noun) = violet + θλάσπις, -εως (noun)

= kind of cress ], without reference to the plant !
