Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges cylindriques grêles, ramifiées, glabres, peu feuillées.

Feuilles à la base et alternes, composées trifoliées, glabres, à pétiole plus long que le limbe, celles de la base à folioles orbiculaires dentées, les caulinaires à folioles linéaires et entières.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, blanches, de 2 mm de diamètre, réunies en ombelles composées de 15 à 40 mm de diamètre, à 8 à 30 rayons principaux filiformes et couverts de poils très courts. Corolle à 5 pétales libres dont un, beaucoup plus grand, profondément bilobé. Ombelles sans bractées ni bractéoles. 5 étamines à filet blanc et à anthère souvent mauve. 2 styles. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, akènes vert clair, sphériques, aplatis, velus, d’environ 1 mm de diamètre, surmontés des 2 styles dressés.

Leaves at the base and alternate, compound trifoliate, glabrous, with a petiole longer than the blade, basal leaves with toothed, orbicular leaflets, stem-leaves with linear and entire leaflets.

Flowers radially symmetrical, white, 2 mm in diameter, joined together in compound umbels from 15 to 40 mm in diameter, with 8 to 30 thread-like main rays and covered in very short hairs. Corolla with 5 free petals including one, much larger, deeply two-lobed. Umbels without bracts nor bracteoles. 5 stamens with a white filament and with an often mauve anther. 2 styles. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, pale green, spherical, flattened, very hairy achenes, approximately 1 mm in diameter, surmounted by the 2 erect styles.

Étymologie / Etymology :

Pimpinella : peut-être nom créé par les botanistes [ < pampinus, -i (nom)

= le pampre, le feuillage de la vigne + -ellus, -a, -um (diminutif) = petit,

un peu ] = petite vigne, en référence aux feuilles semblables à celles

de la vigne. Étymologie douteuse.

Peregrina : emprunt du latin peregrinus, -a, -um (adj.) = étranger,

venant de l’étranger.

Pimpinella : perhaps name created by botanists

[ < pampinus, -i (noun) = the vine, the leaves of the vine

+ -ellus, -a, -um (diminutive) = small, a little ] = small vine, referring to

the leaves similar to those of the vine. Doubtful etymology.

Peregrina : borrowed from Latin peregrinus, -a, -um (adj) = foreign,

coming from abroad.
