Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, parasite, sans chlorophylle, à poils glanduleux, à tige simple, de 2 à 3 mm de diamètre, renflée à la base.

Feuilles alternes, réduites à des bractées, entières, lancéolées, de moins de 5 mm de long, très espacées, aiguës.

Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, violettes, bleues ou crème, avec une tache blanche à la base, de 10 à 11 mm de long, réunies par moins de 10 en épi lâche de 15 à 25 mm de long. Chaque fleur avec 1 bractée et 2 bractéoles. Corolle à 2 lèvres un peu renflées en tube courbé à la base, la lèvre supérieure échancrée, la lèvre inférieure trilobée. Calice à dents aussi longues que le tube. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules ovoïdes, glabres, crème, de 5 mm de long, de 3 mm de diamètre.

Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, violet, blue or cream, white-blotched at the base, from 10 to 11 mm long, joined together by less than 10 in loose spike from 15 to 25 mm long. Each flower with 1 bract and 2 bracteoles. Corolla bilabiate, a little swollen in curved tube at the base, the upper lip indented, the lower lip trilobate. Calyx with teeth as long as the tube. Ovary superior.

Fruits, capsules ovoid, glabrous, cream-coloured, 5 mm long, 3 mm in diameter.

nom donné à la plante par Théophraste, philosophe péripatéticien,

disciple d’Aristote, botaniste et naturaliste, mort vers 288 av. J.-C., en

référence au caractère parasitaire de cette plante qui étouffe plusieurs

espèces de Fabaceae.

Ramosa : emprunt du latin ramosus, -a, -um (adj.) = branchu,

rameux, qui a beaucoup de branches.

Nana : emprunt du latin nanus, -a, -um (adj.) = nain, petit,

en référence à la taille de la plante.
