Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, vigoureuse, glabre, très odorante, à bulbe.

Feuilles à la base, simples, linéaires, de 10 à 50 cm de long, de 5 à 25 mm de large, aussi longues que les hampes florales, gris vert, glauques, un peu en gouttière.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, blanches, de 15 à 40 mm de diamètre, réunies par 3 à 15 en ombelles de 5 à 15 cm de diamètre. Hampe florale glabre, comprimée, à 2 angles. Périanthe à 6 tépales larges, ovales, pointus, unis, soudés en tube terminé au sommet par une couronne jaune vif de 3 à 6 mm de profondeur. Pédicelles de longueur inégale, entourés à la base d’une spathe membraneuse. 6 étamines (3 grandes et 3 petites), orange, non saillantes. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, capsules vertes, à 3 valves.

Flowers radially symmetrical, white, from 15 to 40 mm in diameter, joined together by 3 to 15 in umbels from 5 to 15 cm in diameter. Floral pole glabrous, compressed, with 2 angles. Perianth with 6 wide, ovate, pointed, self-coloured tepals, fused in tube finished at the top by a bright yellow crown from 3 to 6 mm deep. Pedicels of unequal length, surrounded at the base by a membranous spathe. 6 stamens (3 large and 3 small), orange, nonprotruding. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, green capsules with 3 valves.

Tazetta : emprunt de l’italien tazetta (nom) = la petite tasse, nom

populaire en usage dans le nord de l’Italie, en référence à la forme

de sa couronne jaune vif.

name given to the plant by Plinius, Latin naturalist died in 79 AD,

Latinized form of the Classical Greek νάρκισσος, -ου (noun)
