Plante herbacée, dioïque, glabre ou légèrement poilue, à tiges quadrangulaires, ramifiées et feuillées dès la base.

Feuilles opposées, simples, ovales à lancéolées, dentées, à pétiole assez long, vert clair, arrondies à la base, ciliées sur les bords.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, mâles et femelles sur des plantes distinctes. Fleurs mâles verdâtres, pédonculées, réunies en glomérules groupés en grêle épi terminal interrompu et dressé; fleurs femelles peu nombreuses, de 3 à 4 mm de long, par 1 à 3 à l’aisselle des feuilles et presque sessiles. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules de 2 à 3 mm de diamètre, formées de 2 parties, couvertes de poils blancs, avec de petites graines ovoïdes, gris brun.

Plant herbaceous, dioecious, glabrous or slightly hairy. Stems quadrangular, branched, leafy from the base.

Leaves opposite, simple, ovate to lanceolate, toothed, with a petiole rather long, pale green, rounded at the base, ciliate on the edges.

Flowers radially symmetrical, male and female ones on distinct plants. Male flowers greenish, stalked, joined together in glomeruli grouped in a slender, stopped and erect terminal spike; female flowers few, from 3 to 4 mm long, by 1 to 3 at the axil of the leaves and almost sessile. Ovary superior.

Fruits, capsules from 2 to 3 mm in diameter, made of 2 parts, covered in white hairs, with small, ovoid, brown grey seeds.

to the discovery of the healing properties of the plant.
