Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à souche ligneuse, à jeunes tiges duveteuses.

Feuilles alternes, divisées palmatifides à palmatipartites, vert clair, duveteuses, pétiolées, les inférieures de 20 cm de long au plus et à 5 à 7 lobes, les supérieures de 40 mm de long et cordiformes.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, roses, violettes ou lilas, pourpre sombre au centre, à veines rayonnantes, de 25 à 50 mm de diamètre, réunies par 2 à 7 en bouquets à l’aisselle des feuilles supérieures. Corolle à 5 pétales de 15 à 20 mm de long, soudés à la base. Calice à 5 sépales libres, terminés par 1 dent aiguë en forme de triangle. Calicule plus long que les sépales, à 3 bractées ovales à arrondies, soudées à la base, velues, qui s’accroissent après la floraison. Nombreuses étamines. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, 6 à 8 akènes soudés, ridés et à bords aigus.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite, with a woody stock. Youthful stems hoary.

Leaves alternate, dissected palmatifid to palmatipartite, pale green, hoary, petiolate, the lower ones 20 cm long at most and with 5 to 7 lobes, the higher ones 40 mm long and cordate.

Flowers radially symmetrical, pink, violet or lilac, dark purple in the centre, with veins spreading from the centre, from 25 to 50 mm in diameter, joined together by 2 to 7 in clusters at the axil of the upper leaves. Corolla with 5 partly fused petals, from 15 to 20 mm long. Calyx with 5 free sepals finished by 1 acute, triangle-shaped tooth. Epicalyx longer than the sepals, with 3 ovate to rounded, partly fused bracts, very hairy, increasing after flowering. Numerous stamens. Ovary superior.

Fruits, 6 to 8 fused, wrinkled achenes, with acute edges.
