Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, dressée, à tiges grêles, poilues, presque glabres au sommet.

Feuilles en rosette à la base, divisées pennatiséquées, dentées ou lobées, les caulinaires opposées, entières, simples, linéaires à lancéolées, poilues sur la face supérieure, presque glabres sur la face inférieure, les supérieures sessiles et embrassantes.

Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, presque radiaire, mauve pâle à blanchâtres, de 8 à 13 mm de diamètre, réunies par 20 à 40 en capitules solitaires de 15 à 35 mm de diamètre. Fleurs dépassant nettement les bractées de l’involucre. Corolle à 4 pétales soudés en tube, aplatis dans la partie supérieure. Capitule à fleurs extérieures rayonnantes. Calice réduit à une coupe à marge à 12 à 24 dents. Involucre à bractées allongées, sans nervures saillantes. Ovaire infère.

Fruits, akènes à 1 graine, surmontés par la coupe du calicule.

Leaves in a rosette at the base, dissected pinnatisect, toothed or lobed, stem-leaves opposite, entire, simple, linear to lanceolate, hairy on the upper surface, almost glabrous on the lower surface, the higher ones sessile and clasping.

Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, almost radiate, pale mauve to whitish, from 8 to 13 mm in diameter, joined together by 20 to 40 in solitary capitula from 15 to 35 mm in diameter. Flowers conspicuously exceeding the bracts of the involucre. Corolla with 4 petals fused in tube, flattened in the upper part. Capitulum with external flowers spreading from the centre. Calyx reduced to a cup edged with 12 to 24 teeth. Involucre with lengthened bracts, without protruding veins. Ovary inferior.

Fruits, achenes with 1 seed, surmounted by the cut of epicalyx.

Knautia : nom donné en l’honneur de Christoph Knaut (1638-1694) et

de son frère Christian Knaut (1656-1716), botanistes allemands qui

ont étudié la flore de l’Amérique Centrale et des Caraïbes.

Integrifolia : emprunt du latin integer, -gra, -grum (adj.) = intact,

entier + folium, -i (nom) = la feuille. L’adjectif latin integrifolius, -a, -um

signifie: qui a les feuilles entières.

Knautia : name given in honour of Christoph Knaut (1638-1694) and

his brother Christian Knaut (1656-1716), German botanists who

studied the flora of the Central America and the Caribbean.

Integrifolia : borrowed from Latin integer, -gra, -grum (adj) = intact,

entire + folium, -i (noun) = leaf. The Latin adjective integrifolius,

-a, -um means: with entire leaves.
