Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges raides rappelant le genêt, glabres dans la partie supérieure et poilues vers le bas, à ramifications dressées.
Feuilles en rosette à la base, simples, linéaires à oblongues, lobées ou à dents profondes, les inférieures vite flétries, les supérieures alternes, petites, linéaires et souvent entières.
Fleurs jaunes, toutes ligulées, réunies par 7 à 12 en capitules sessiles de 9 à 10 mm de long, groupés par 2 à 4, entourés de bractées linéaires à lancéolées, dressées, poilues ou non. Ovaire infère.
Fruits, akènes terminés par des poils denticulés non plumeux.

Plant herbaceous, hermaphrodite. Stems stiff reminding the broom, glabrous in the higher part and hairy downwards, with erect ramifications.
Leaves in a rosette at the base, simple, linear to oblong, lobed or with deep teeth, the lower ones quickly faded, the higher ones alternate, small, linear and often entire.
Flowers yellow, with only ray-florets, joined together by 7 to 12 in sessile capitula from 9 to 10 mm long, grouped by 2 to 4, surrounded by bracts linear to lanceolate, erect, hairy or not. Ovary inferior.
Fruits, achenes finished by nonfeathery, denticulate hairs.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Chondrilla : emprunt du latin chondrilla, -ae (nom), nom donné à la
plante par Pline, naturaliste latin mort en 79 apr. J.-C., forme latinisée
du grec ancien χονδρίλη, -ης (nom), nom donné à la plante par
Dioscoride, médecin et botaniste grec mort en 90 apr. J.-C.
Juncea : emprunt du latin junceus, -a, -um (adj.) [ < juncus, -i (nom)
= le jonc ] = semblable au jonc, en référence aux tiges minces et
élancées.
Chondrilla : borrowed from Latin chondrilla, -ae (noun), name given
to the plant by Plinius, Latin naturalist died in 79 AD, Latinized form
of the Classical Greek χονδρίλη, -ης (noun), name given to the plant
by Dioscorides, Greek doctor and botanist died in 90 AD.
Juncea : borrowed from Latin junceus, -a, -um (adj) [ < juncus, -i
(noun) = rush ] = similar to rush, rush like, referring to the thin and
slender stems.
