Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à souche ligneuse, charnue, rampante.

Feuilles opposées connées, simples, linéaires, entières ou denticulées, cireuses, légèrement courbées, de section transversale triangulaire.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, pourpres, jaunes ou orange. Corolle à nombreux pétales linéaires, se chevauchant.

Fruits charnus ressemblant à une figue, comestibles.
