Arbuste hermaphrodite, étalé, nauséabond, assez peu touffu.
Feuilles alternes, composées trifoliées, à folioles elliptiques sessiles, pétiolées; stipules soudées à la base du pétiole.
Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, jaune verdâtre, de 18 à 25 mm de long, réunies en grappes axillaires à l’opposé d’une feuille. Corolle papilionacée, avec une tache noirâtre à la base de l’étendard; étendard beaucoup plus court que les autres pétales. Calice persistant. Étamines libres entre elles. Ovaire supère.
Fruits, gousses pédonculées, légèrement charnues, pendantes, linéaires à oblongues, de 10 à 20 cm de long, glabres, un peu resserrées entre les graines qui sont violacées à maturité.

Treelet hermaphrodite, spread out, nauseous, not very tufted.
Leaves alternate, compound trifoliate, with 3 sessile, petiolate, elliptic leaflets; stipules fused at the base of the petiole.
Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, yellow greenish, from 18 to 25 mm long, joined together in axillary racemes opposite a leaf. Corolla papilionaceous, with a blackish speck at the base of the standard; standard much shorter than the other petals. Persistent calyx. Free stamens between them. Ovary superior.
Fruits, pods pedunculate, slightly fleshy, hanging, linear to oblong, from 10 to 20 cm long, glabrous, tightened a little between the seeds which are purplish at maturity.

Anagyris : Latinized form of the Classical Greek ἀνάγυρις, -εως
(noun) = name given to the plant by Dioscorides, Greek doctor and
botanist died in 90 AD.
Foetida : borrowed from Latin foetidus, -a, -um (adj)
[ < foeteo, -es, -ere (verb) = to have a stinking odour, bad smelling ]
= fetid, bad smelling.
