Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, vivace, à 2 ou 3 tubercules globuleux ou ovoïdes.
Feuilles alternes et en rosette à la base, simples, linéaires à lancéolées, entières, de 5 à 10 cm de long, étroites, non tachées. Feuilles caulinaires plus petites, se chevauchant et engainant la tige jusqu’à l’inflorescence. Bractées lancéolées à 1 nervure.
Fleurs à symétrie bilatérale, marron violacé ou verdâtres, réunies en dense épi oblong, à parfum vanillé. Pétales et sépales en casque fermé et pointu, de 5 à 10 mm de long. Labelle de 8 à 11 mm de long, vert pourpré, ponctué de rouge, à 3 lobes, le lobe médian plus grand. Éperon aussi long que l’ovaire, légèrement incliné vers le bas. Ovaire infère.

Leaves alternate and in a rosette at the base, simple, linear to lanceolate, entire, from 5 to 10 cm long, narrow, not speckled. Stem-leaves smaller, overlapping and sheathing the stem as far as the inflorescence. Bracts lanceolate with 1 vein.
Flowers bilaterally symmetrical, purplish dark brown or greenish, joined together in a dense oblong spike, with a vanilla smell. Petals and sepals in a closed and pointed helmet, from 5 to 10 mm long. Labellum from 8 to 11 mm long, purple green, punctuated of red, with 3 lobes, the median lobe larger. Spur as long as the ovary, slightly tilted downwards. Ovary inferior.

Étymologie / Etymology :
Anacamptis : emprunt du grec ancien ἀνακάμπτω (verbe)
= recourber, replier, en référence à son éperon arqué.
Coriophora : emprunt du grec ancien κόρις, -εως (nom) = la punaise
+ φέρω (verbe) = porter. Coriophorus = qui porte des punaises,
en référence à sa forte odeur désagréable.
Fragrans : emprunt du latin fragrans, -antis (adj.)
[ < fragro, -as, -are (verbe) = exhaler une forte odeur ]
= qui exhale une odeur forte, odorant.
Anacamptis : borrowed from Classical Greek ἀνακάμπτω (verb)
= to bend back, to fold, referring to its curved spur.
Coriophora : borrowed from Classical Greek κόρις, -εως (noun)
= bug + φέρω (verb) = to carry. Coriophorus = which carries bugs,
referring to its strong unpleasant odor.
Fragrans : borrowed from Latin fragrans, -antis (adj)
[ < fragro, -as, -are (verb) = to give off a strong odour ]
= which gives off a strong odour, odorous.
