Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges érigées, rigides, poilues à la base et glabres au sommet.

Feuilles opposées, simples, linéaires, poilues.

Fleurs à symétrie radiaire, blanchâtres à rosâtres, de 5 mm de diamètre environ, solitaires ou réunies par 2. Corolle à 5 pétales libres, bifides, de 10 mm de long, terminés par 4 dents, à taches mauves dessinant une étoile. Calice pubescent, à 5 sépales soudés en tube allongé, de 9 mm de long, veinés de rouge foncé. Ovaire supère.

Fruits, capsules à graines peu nombreuses.

Leaves opposite, simple, linear, hairy.

Flowers radially symmetrical, whitish to pinkish, approximately 5 mm in diameter, solitary or joined together by 2. Corolla with 5 free, bifid petals, 10 mm long, finished by 4 teeth, with mauve marks in the shape of a star. Calyx pubescent, with 5 sepals fused in a lengthened tube, 9 mm long, with dark red veins. Ovary superior.

Fruits, capsules with few seeds.

= quatre + dentatus, -a, -um (adj.) = qui a des dents ] = à quatre dents,

en référence aux pétales terminés par quatre dents.

Velezia : name given in honour of Cristóbal Vélez (ca 1710-1753),

Spanish pharmacist and botanist.
