Plante herbacée, hermaphrodite, à tiges cylindriques, dichotomes, érigées, ramifiées, à poils courts et nombreux.
Feuilles opposées, simples, linéaires à lancéolées, entières, glabres et finement ciliées, sans stipules, les supérieures avec 2 lobes à la base.
Fleurs à symétrie presque radiaire, en tube, lilas pâle, de 1 à 1,5 mm de diamètre, réunies en bouquets de 7 à 9 mm de diamètre. Corolle à 5 pétales soudés à la base. Calice glabre à l’intérieur, à 6 sépales soudés à la base, verts, unis, terminés par 1 dent crochue rosée, à 1 nervure marquée. 3 étamines. Ovaire infère.
Fruits, akènes verts, glabres, de 4 à 5 mm de diamètre, garnis du calice à 6 dents rosées.

Leaves opposite, simple, linear to lanceolate, entire, glabrous and finely ciliate, without stipules, the higher ones with 2 lobes at the base.
Flowers almost radially symmetrical, tubular, pale lilac, from 1 to 1.5 mm in diameter, joined together in clusters from 7 to 9 mm in diameter. Corolla with 5 fused petals. Calyx glabrous inside, with 6 green, self-coloured, partly fused sepals, finished by 1 hooked, pink tooth, with 1 conspicuous vein. 3 stamens. Ovary inferior.
Fruits, green, glabrous achenes, from 4 to 5 mm in diameter, provided with the calyx with 6 pinkish teeth.

Valerianella : nom créé par les botanistes [ < valeriana, -ae (nom)
= la valériane + -ella (suffixe) = petit ] = la petite valériane.
Coronata : emprunt du latin coronatus, -a, -um (part. passé)
[ < corono, -as, -are (verbe) = couronner ] = couronné, orné d’une
couronne, en référence à la forme du fruit.
Valerianella : name created by botanists [ < valeriana, -ae (noun)
= valerian + -ella (suffix) = petit ] = small valerian.
Coronata : borrowed from Latin coronatus, -a, -um (past participle)
[ < corono, -as, -are (verb) = to crown ] = crowned, decorated with
a crown, referring to the shape of fruit.
